After missing 1 week for the podcast we catch up with Rodney Beattie after his trip to Australia on a massive opal buying spree. We find out what he bought from the opal miners, what he is cutting now, what he has in store for the future. We talk about getting into some of the top end of the opal jewelry market and possibly cutting top top end opal for a luxury line of opal jewelry … just because we can!

The story of the show…

Every Thursday morning, 8AM EST, we do our best to produce a show that highlights the realities of being in the opal business.

Whilst we try out best to get a show done weekly out busy opal lives sometimes don’t allow for it. Running 7 online businesses is no easy task but I truly do love it and some weeks get the better of me, this week was one of them. Although we didn't have time to do our regular show that doesn't mean we didn't do anything this week.  In fact it's quite the opposite. Rod and I are looking at quite an exciting new line of opal jewelry we would like to create and we are super busy trying to take our top top opal and turn them into aesthetically pleasing shapes so they can suit our designs we intend to use for our new luxury opal jewelry line.

What inspires me to create such a niche line of opal jewelry that will surely tie up a lot of material and money? Well to be honest I am one of those people who cant sit still and since Ive been doing the regular opal designs now for so many years its time for a chance. Not a complete shift away from our core business model but just something a little different to change things up a little. I mean there is only 1 other luxury opal jewelry designer in the world so why not cough up the money and go for it, at least I can say I tried. There's nothing more pleasing at the end of the day than a truly world class piece of opal jewelry that captures ones imagination and true beauty of this amazing Australian gem.
